Introducing Les Kott

How long have you been involved with Sacred Trinity Church?

73 years.

Do you have any particular role?

At the moment you could state assistance. That is how it has been for many years. If we are going back years, I was a member of the choir, as a choir boy and eventually everybody disappeared except me for different reasons.

What do you like most about Sacred Trinity?

The building itself. I have seen it change over the years and remember what used to be like. I may be biased but there is no other church for me. I know there are beautiful buildings and churches elsewhere, but this place is the best for me.

Is there any special moment at Church that you’d like to tell us about?

So many, really. Most recently, obviously, the funeral of my wife, I found it very moving, especially the way people have been so kind since then. Because Margaret was a star supporter of this church. It is also the different services that we do in church, such as the memorial service for, where we remember Humphrey Booth, who was the founder of this church. And of course, my baptism here. I was confirmed here later, and Margaret and I married in this church as well. I still remember how she was sitting in the pews right here.

Manchester or Salford?

Well because I am a Salfordian, it must be Salford. Really there is not a lot of differences. I mean we are only a couple hundred yards away from Manchester.

Tea or Coffee?

Tea. I don’t really like coffee. I like the smell of coffee, but I don’t like to drink it.

City or United?

Well, I am sorry to say this at the moment, but it is United for me. But I can go back to 1958 where the airplane crashed after we were playing Bayern Munich. It was on a Thursday, the 6th of February 1958 and I was working at the time. A delivery driver told me that the airplane had crashed and later that night during the choir practice, nobody really wanted to sing and the choir master sent us home. If that team would have survived, they would have been the best team. You wouldn’t have heard of City or any other team.

Morning service or evening service?

I used to come to Evensong. But now I just come to the morning service, which I enjoy anyway to take part in it.

Walk or cycle?

Well, I used to cycle a lot. I used to ride 8 miles a day to work and 8 miles back. I’ve never been interested in driving but Margaret, my wife, she used to drive. I used to do a lot of running but had to give it up when I was about 60 years old.
